THE OVAL RACING EXPERIENCE 2009

NEC Birmingham

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th January 2009

OVAL TRACK LEGENDS

Details of the drivers racing on Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 4.45pm has been supplied by Peggyann Lilley.

2  - RICHARD STAGG from Harpenden in Hertfordshire is 25 years old and a regular at our race meetings in his 1937 Chevy Sedan.  'Staggy' joined Oval Track Legends in 2004 and races well but, to date, a big win has somehow eluded him.

4 - DAVE WATKISS joined the formula late in the 2007 season in a lease hire car from Race Car Direct UK Limited.  Race appearances for the man from Burton On Trent in Staffordshire have been very far and few between.  He is probably our least experienced driver at the NEC but it won't deter him from putting on a good show in the 1937 Chevy Sedan he acquired in early 2008.

7 - TREVOR JAMES travels wide and far from his home in Dorset for Oval Track Legends and is the formulae most experienced driver.  TJ was part of the set up in 1997 when Legends Cars first came to the UK and has achieved numerous race wins including, notably, the Arthur Bright Trophy in 2006 and an 8th place finish in the 2008 National Points Championship.

11 - JON EVANS, from King's Lynn in Norfolk, joined the series in 2004 in his 1937 Chevy Sedan and is a regular racer that has notched up some top results.  In 2006 he won the Birmingham Championship and, prior to that, he finished 3rd in the Triple Crown Championship and Semi-Pro Division of 2006.

16 - NATHAN NICHOLLS, known as Nod, is a keen young racer from Dorset and from the Trevor James stable.  Since joining Oval Track Legends in 2007, he is a relatively new driver but with lots of track experience and as featured high in the race results on quite a few occasions.

19 - DEAN THOMPSON races a highly presentable 1937 Ford Sedan and is one of our top Midlands based drivers.  He lives in Birmingham and has raced since 2006.  'Deano', aged 36, worked tirelessly through 2008 to overcome some pretty bad luck and attain a 5th place finish in the National Points Championship.

35 - STU BLYTH from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire is probably one of the most renown names on the short ovals appearing at the NEC this year.  At 54 years old and with nearly 40 years experience in numerous formulae, he settled for an Oval Track Legends car in 2005.  The car, a 1940 Ford Coupe, is the only example of this model you will see.  Stu has only raced periodically and gained a few successes with much enjoyment.

78 - MARK DEWS is a top 'young gun' and definitely one to watch.  From his home in Newcastle, he has travelled a fair distance since joining the forumla in 2004.  Recent major successes include the 2008 Buxton Championship and in 2006 he won the British Long Track Championship held at Rockingham.

99 - STEVE DAKIN
from Morecambe in Lancashire is notably an ex Formula 2 driver that turned to Oval Track Legends as far back as 2002.  Nicknamed 'Shakey', he won the 2008 National Championship in style and will be a formidable opponent at the Live Action Arena.

100 - RUSS BULL is a star driver from Burton On Trent in Staffordshire and the 9th top points scorer in 2008.  The brightly liveried 1937 Chevy Sedan owned by Russ not only looks good,  he won the 2007 National Points Championship and has featured high in the race results consistently since his first meeting in 2006.

156 - PETER BLUNDELL races in a 1937 Ford Sedan and is another Lancashire lad.  Since starting Oval Track Legends in 2006, the man from Preston, has often won podium places in championship races and won numerous heats but not quite grasped the major championship title that he deserves.

161 - DAN HOLDEN is always on the pace with the results to show for it.  The Norwich based driver has raced with us since 2003 and has gone from strength to strength.  In 2008 he took hold of two major titles - the Long Track Championship and the European Championship.  He topped the year off with a 2nd place finish in the National Points Chart.

266 - LEE HOLDEN, the younger brother of Dan, also hails from Norwich and joined the series in 2006.  In 2008 he drove the 1934 Ford Coupe to a heat win at Arena Essex and races consistently to feature regularly in the results and 13th in the National Points Championship.

808 - JEFF PRITCHARD travels miles to race from Kendal in Cumbria and works hard on the preparation of his 1937 Chevy Sedan.  The car always looks in 'showroom' condition and is a credit to him and the formula.  Jeff didn't take part in many points rounds in 2008 but put in a good performance wherever he appeared to reach midway of the National Points Championship.
