The F2 stand in the Oval Racing Experience in Hall 18 will be featuring the brand new car of World Champion Mick Sworder along with the BriSCA F2 Babes. Make sure you pay Stand No. 18260 a visit and collect your 2008 Fixture List. Paul Brown is organising the stand, cars and drivers and has sent us the following driver profiles for the BriSCA F2s that are racing in the Oval Racing Spectaculars. Gordon Moodie, 7. The Scottish mega star from Fife has had another long hard, controversial season, at the top of the F2 racing tree. He raced season 2007 with the Gold Roof, under the number made famous by his father Jimmy, but reverts to his more familiar number 79 for season 2008. Championship form in 2007. National Points Champion for fifth consecutive year, British Champion, 4th in World Final from 27th on the grid, and second in the Irish Open Championship. Dave Polley. 38. The only driver seemingly willing to chase Gordon Moodie all over the UK in search of National Points. The Manea based superstar finished third in the National Points Championship, 2nd in the Scottish Championship, 3rd in the F2 Nationals and 7th in the F2 Challenge. Mick Sworder 152. The Stevenage hard charger finally realised his dream and became the World Champion for the first time in 2007. As ever, Mick was responsible for some of the biggest hits during the season, perhaps one of his biggest ever coming in the North V South team race challenge at Birmingham in April. On top of his World Championship victory, Mick placed second in the F2 Nationals event, and 7th in the British Championship. His seven final victories in 2007 moved him up to sixth place in the all time F2 final winners charts. James Thackra 324. Season 2007 was James’s best ever. He finished the year second in the National points charts, second in the world final and 10th in the British drivers championship. He also recorded a career best eleven final wins during the season. Dave Harley 362. Dave is the Vice Chairman of the F2 BSCDA Association, and unselfishly spent most of season 2007 testing tyres and the new Duratec engines on behalf of the drivers. A real grafter behind the scenes on behalf of the BSCDA, and a driver who deserves more success than he ever gets due to his amazing ability to find and end up in everyone else’s crashes. They don’t call him Chaos for nothing! Andrew Palmer 606. The Peterborough based driver is another who had a best ever year, making and holding a first time superstar berth, as well as having a dream drive to land his career first major win in the shape of the extremely popular World of Shale event. As you will see on the night, Andrew also has a reputation for having and maintaining one of, if not the most attractive looking F2 cars in the country. Chris Burgoyne. 647. Gordon Moodie’s biggest challenger in Scotland. He was, and remains the sports youngest ever World Champion after his 2002 Racewall triumph. In recent years has matured rapidly, and in 2007 added another title to his CV in the form of the Grand National Championship. He also finished 6th in the British Championship, 4th in the F2 Challenge trophy and 5th in the Irish Open Championship. Tim Farrell 667. Tim has not raced as much in 2007 due to an early season addition to his family, but when he has raced he has made his presence felt. Finished 6th in the World Final, 5th in the Ben Fund race and also joined the exclusive club of drivers who have won 50 or more career F2 finals. Neil Hooper 676. One of the super star second-generation racers that grace the venues of the UK, and another who deserves more success from the sport, for the time and effort he puts into his racing. One of the most under rated star men in the UK. George Turiccki 186 2007 Novice of the year 2007, George Turiccki, has replaced the injured Mark Simpson. Chris Bradbury 886. Three years into his F2 career, young Chris Bradbury is another who can claim 2007 to be a best ever. Won his first major events in the shape of the Irish Open and F2 Nationals Championships, and finished 7th in the World Final. Without fear of contradiction and can say you will be hearing a lot more of the man called Chris Bradbury in the coming seasons. Craig McConnell NI 925. It seems only a very short time ago that the name Craig McConnell appeared on the racetracks of Northern Ireland. In the last couple of seasons he has put in some fine appearances on the tracks of mainland UK, and this year went one step further claiming the European Championship, and placing 3rd in both the Irish Open and F2 Challenge Championships. He also finished in 9th place in the World Championship and won four finals in Northern Ireland. Reserve. Daz Shaw 377. Yet another who will consider season 2007 a best ever, despite the obvious disappointment at making first lap exits in both the World of Shale and World Championship finals. Another young gun who will be heard of a lot more in coming seasons. |
